Is this the thing that will destroy Digg?

Digg has spawned a number of clones. some offering interesting and unique information. Others duplicating existing sites.

With a CMS such as Pligg you can quickly and easily set up you own Digg type site. It took me 30 mins to knock up my own Pligg test here. It’s quite exciting when you realise you have your own Digg. The official site for Pligg here. You then realise the essential factor of a Digg type site is traffic and if you havn’t got any it looks a bit sad. It needs to hit a critical mass of users to be useful. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of links that some guy found.

It’s easy to get caught up with the technology. However, I see very interesting applications for a Digg clone, some I am pursuing already. For example, you could apply it to a membership site and have people themselves voted for instead of the story. A sort of amihotornot 2.0

I was surprised to see the number of sites already out there and according to Alexa generating traffic - yes I know Alexa can be gamed, and I know an seo site will be skewed because more people have a toolbar. But it’s the only metric I can get my hands on, so for what it’s worth I have listed the Alexa ranking. I should have listed the PR too, maybe I will update the post with that in mind.

SEO Mozz has a story about the space.

101 ways to get more traffic

1.Write and submit articles . It is a classic, but it works. This will be indefinite traffic stuck in the search engines for you. Write quality unique articles, not articles that are rehashed or provide no insight to readers, which is a huge problem these days.

2.Write and submit press releases, think prweb after you do one.

3.Write and ping blog entries. Always make sure to link back to your website with your blog posts. Try making multiple blogs and have them all link back to one main site.

4.Make sure your website is listed in DMOZ: http://dmoz.org/.

5.Advertise your website in the appropriate categories at Craigslist. Try posting your ads in the most populated cities in the world.

6.If a niche related forum that you frequently visit allows signatures, then make sure to add your website url in there.

7.Make sure to view related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.

8.Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.

9.Review some related products on epinion.

10.If you purchase a product that you actually like, then feel free to give an individual respect when respect is due and leave a testimonial. You should be able to get some traffic from that website if your testimonial is left with a url.

23.Make a custom 404-error page for your website. You can provide a link back to your main website or even try to monetize it by offering a related affiliate program within your niche.

24.Sponsor a charity, most charities will link back to your website, and you are also doing a good deed .

25.Sell an item on eBay as a charity auction. Most charities will link back to both your auction and your main website.

26.Start a publicity campaign, do something that individuals in your niche will take note of.

27.Brand your website with a logo and a slogan/catch phrase. Think IBM.

28.Hold a crazy contest that people in your niche will talk about. This will equal more links and traffic to your website.

45.Have an easy to remember domain name. If your domain name is too long or not memorable then people may forget your site.

46.Add a bookmark option to your website/blogs.

47.Purchase the misspelled versions of your domain name and have it redirect to your main one.

48.Use keywords in your image alt tags. For example, < img src="image.gif" alt="keywords go head" />

49.Make sure to include appropriate keywords in your title tag, search engines show more prominence or importance to keywords here.

50.Place appropriate keywords in your anchor text when linking.

51.If you have a profile anywhere online, always include appropriate keywords and link back to your website.

52.Try to get links from websites within your niche with a high pr (pagerank). Some The more one-way links (inbound links/backlinks) you have to your website, the higher your pr will become. Pagerank is important because websites with higher prs tend to have a higher search results in Google. It is a no brainier that if you can get number one for a competitive keyword then you will have enough traffic that you can handle… oh by the way its all free targeted traffic to remind you.

53.Outsource grunt work. Time is in essence money…. you can hire individuals at freelance services to send emails, request JV proposals, or to answer questions from prospective or current customers.

54.Offer something for FREE. Abracadabra is not the magic word, FREE is. It is like a worm on a pole for a fish in the water…. its bait! Offer a free mini course or free ebook to help collect more subscribers. You can always offer a backend to monetize on this opportunity, such as an affiliate product for example.

55.After someone orders from you offer a one-time offer that compliments your product. For example, if I offered a traffic ebook, then after the individual purchase it would make sense for me to offer a traffic conversion bonus for a limited time only.

56.Become the virus within your niche. Make yourself the bug and have people talking about your product. When people talk about your product then you can induce the viral effect. However, you must give people a reason to talk about you, and being like everyone else is not one.

57.Do your research and find expensive niches to tap into. A good way to do this is to find how expensive someone is paying for a keyword on a PPC search engine. If you can sell items that are more expensive more often then it is a quicker way to get rich .

58.Become an active respected member of niche related forums. You can do this by offering quality posts. Hint Hint, it is not the number of posts you make, it is the quality. Remember, quality or quantity. Many useless or negative posts will have people looking at you funny.

59.Test, test, test. Your flushing money down the toilet if your not testing to see what campaigns are bringing you in the most money compared to which ones are costing you money. When you test, you can eliminate the campaigns that are costing you dollars so that you can properly maximize your marketing efforts. Without proper testing, you are pretty much lost and can’t improve. You can only guess to what has or what is working. With proper testing, you do not guess, you know.

87.Host your own commercial so you can put “as seen on TV” on your products.

88.Conduct surveys and publish them. These make you appear as an expert in your field of study.

89.Break a record or shoot to be in the Guinness world records for something.

90.Make a sitemap for your website.

91.Use a favicon for your site.

Announcing the Official Launch Of Blog Daddyyankeegasoline.blogspot.com

Simple Internet which already has quite an impressive array of online assets such as hghlook.com, weightlosshd.com and donomarlive.blogspot.com has announced the official launch of their Daddy Yankee weblog or “blog.” The company believes that the blog will be an excellent complement to its innovative motivated die hard fans lead subscription service.

The blog will feature a running commentary by Simple Internet Managing Director, John Tiesto, in addition to providing news and informative articles from entertainment world and other entertainment professionals from around the country.

“We recognize that most music rapper today fail in communicating directly with their fans and as we’re always striving to be a groundbreaking company we’ve decided to take a different tact with our blog. That’s why we’re integrating the conventional news and informational website featuring notable contributors with the relatively new commercial application of a blog, which is typically more personal and offers a more direct line of communication with our rapper fans. I think they’ll appreciate it,” said the Managing Director.

In addition to regular contributions by John Tiesto the company plans on offering a great latest news for Daddy Yankee section. The blog already features a public discussion forum, a growing Daddy Yankee terms glossary and a news and information section which consolidates mainstream news articles from the many online entertainment news offerings.

How much will I earn from referrals?

Your earnings for referrals will vary depending on the product you're referring.

* AdSense:
o When a publisher who signed up for Google AdSense through your referral first earns $5 within 180 days of sign-up, you will be credited with $5.
o When that same publisher earns $100 within 180 days of sign-up and is eligible for payout, you will be credited with an additional $250.
o If in any 180-day period you refer 25 publishers who each earn more than $100 within 180 days of their respective sign-ups and are all eligible for payout, you will be awarded a $2,000 bonus (bonus payouts are limited to 1 per year).
* Firefox plus Google Toolbar: When a user you've referred to Firefox plus Google Toolbar runs Firefox for the first time, you'll receive up to US$1 in your account, depending on the user's location. Your referral must be a Windows user, who has not previously installed Firefox, in order for you to receive credit.
* AdWords:

Your earnings from referrals will be included with your earnings from AdSense for content and AdSense for search.

The best kept secrets in SEO

If you cannot get a new Web domain to rank competitively in six months, get out of the business. I don't believe any domain should have to age for 1-2 years before it can be ranked for a commercial term. That's absolute crap.

It's this kind of nonsense that has stripped the SEO industry of its ability to deliver results to the business community. Is it any wonder that people have begun losing faith in search engine optimization?

There is no such thing as an "aging delay". There is no such thing as a "sandbox". There is a clearly documented sandbox effect but the primary reason for the effect is the way people expect new domains to rank well on the basis of cheap links.

Search engine optimization is not supposed to be about rankings. It's supposed to be about traffic. The difference between a true expert in the field and someone who just plays at being an SEO is that an expert -- a real SEO expert -- understands the power of the page. People who go to conferences, listen to the babbling heads, take notes, and read all the blogs just come away with two really stupid ideas: you have to rank on links and you cannot get new domains to rank.

Any page on a Web site has the potential to draw traffic from a large number of query expressions. Just because you optimize your page for really stupid SEO tricks doesn't mean that page should only produce converting traffic from queries for "really stupid SEO tricks". But that page can also draw traffic from: links on other sites, advertising that mentions the specific page URL, news copy that mentions the specific page URL, (unlinked) Web copy that mentions the specific page URL, email, references in books and articles, etc. I've gotten traffic to deep content from all these sources and more.

Here are five signs a site has been optimized by an amateur SEO:

1. Only the home page anticipates search-driven traffic
2. The on-page optimization consists of a title element and keywords meta tag stuffed full of words
3. Most if not all of the links pointing to the site are typical "drops" in forums, blog comments, etc.
4. The pages have very little straight text content compared to navigation, advertising, graphics, and testimonials
5. All pages link back to the "home" page rather than to the "site name"

SEO is not rocket science, but it goes well beyond how many links you can beg for in a week.

You want high quality links? Here are some rules to apply in filtering out the purveyors of low quality links:

* All you have to do is ask for the link
* You can sign up and give yourself links
* You can buy links from the site
* You see advertisintg on the pages
* The site has a reciprocal links page
* The site only provides sales copy (no informative content)
* Every paragraph has typographic and grammatical errors

If a Web site is engaged in the buying or selling or exchanging of links, run away. Maybe it will pass value today but what about tomorrow and next year? Do you really want to trap yourself on the treadmill of having to replace old, dead links year after year? Me, I'll take the stability offered by editorially chosen links. They'll stay around because of the value I create in my own content.

Does that mean I have to wait 1-2 years to get links to my content? Of course not. What's the point of having a Web site if you're not going to promote it for two years? That's just stupid.

If you're going to put out a Web site, tell people about it. Just don't expect to get your search results from links. You get search results from optimization, and optimization is not about links. There are plenty of fools in this industry who will insist it's all about links. I can't help them, except to consistently point out they are wrong.

Which doesn't mean that every link-generating guru is a fool. If they are getting links to build traffic and audience, they have no reason to care about search engine results. In fact, here are the basic rules of search engine optimization:

1. Never reveal everything you know
2. Never depend on any one search engine for traffic
3. Never depend on search engines for most of your traffic
4. Always design every page on your site as if it's the first page any new visitor will see
5. Always update your content 1-2 times a year
6. Always review your keyword research 1-2 times a year
7. Never trust a third-party analytic tool for anything more than a quick, on-the-spot measurement of progress as compared to past measurements

And the methodology is simple: experiment, evaluate, adjust

What more do you need to know about search engine optimization? Algorithms change year after year. Search engines come and go. Web sites come and go, but good Web sites stay. They are good because someone cares enough to ensure they stay around. That tender loving care begins the moment you conceive of your site, not 2 years after you've put it on the Web.

Divide the project into small tasks: Project Time Management

Project time management is a set of time management skills which will help in completing a long term or short term project. Time management principles and skills can be implemented in project time management so as to employ your supplies, resource and any other factor effectively. This in turn will help you meet deadlines at the specified time without compromising on the quality of the deliverables.

You will face an array of challenges which only get more complex as you walk this path. You will need to handle project that need help and need to be managed properly so as to complete them as per the schedule. The problem here is proper time management and how to actually practice the time management techniques in reality is important skill to be acquired.

A Learning Experience

Project time management involves to employ time management skills to manage the people assigned to a project, optimum utilization of all resources and achieving the goals at every phase of a project as per the schedule. These skills need to be imbibed and practiced regularly both in you daily professional and personal life. You should adopt all possible time management techniques to balance your life and at the same time achieve your goals.

Estimate the time required to complete the project accurately. Always take decisions based on a strong rationale on how much time a specific phase or task of a project will take. Of course, with experience you will be able to do this more accurately but it is also equally vital to gain a general understanding of the different aspects. Always have some leeway for safety reasons. Make the responsible people accountable for some tasks and see to it that they work as a team and deliver the task with the expected quality. This should not be done at the cost of work ethics. This is most important for your project time management plan since it will bring your leadership and management skills out in the open.

Lastly, you have the proper understanding of the goals of your project and are in line with the goals of project time management. Your team members should have the same level of understanding about the significance of time management, teamwork and put in all the efforts that the project demands. You certainly don’t want to lose people when you need them most, so have a rigorous selection procedure so as to have the right people on board the project. Project time management tests a host of skills, but the rewards are very satisfying.

Time Management Tips for Busy Mothers

Are you struggling to cope with soccer practice, ballet lessons, and a bake sale? Are you a mom who stays and wonders why so? Are you seeking for valuable time management tips that will assist you in doing much more than what you do?

Usually, it is common for mothers to consult each other for the best time management tips. The most common response they get is prioritization. This word is simple and once you implement it to its fullest, you will be able to achieve success easily.

Make a List and Prioritize Correctly

Similar to a grocery list, prepare a ‘Things to do’ list but it is advisable to categorize them into: Must do, Should Do and Want to do. Paste this on your garage door or refrigerator or any other place where it is easily accessible. But for this time management trip to bear fruit, make sure that you categorize your tasks in a correct manner.

Must Do

Those tasks that are extremely time sensitive and would bear serious consequences if not completed within the prescribed deadline should be put into Must Do tasks. For instance, electricity bill payment or enrolling your child into preschool would be Must Do tasks, because if not carried out the electricity supply will be cut and your child will miss preschool.

Should Do

Those tasks which you ought to carry out but are not required to be done immediately are the Should Do tasks. Tasks like baking a cake for your neighbor or dusting the ceiling fans need to be done but can be delayed so as to take care of MUST DO things.

Want To Do

These are tasks that you would like to complete when you have time and after the Must Do and Should Do tasks have been done. Tasks like scrapbooking supplies, buyin shoes can be these kind of tasks. These tasks enable to devote time for yourself, whenever you find some.

Action Plan

Go through the list at least a night before so as to come up with an action plan about the next day. Check off whatever tasks you complete and this will give you a great feeling of achieving some target. This is very important especially for mothers who do not get paid and have to work selflessly throughout the week.

Prioritization is the crucial thing to do because without it you might end up forgetting to carry out the crucial task and indulge in some other trivia. For instance, you might spend you day in decoration the birthday venue and forget ordering the cake! Hence classify your to list and you will find it very easy to carry out the tasks.

This time management plan is not a magic mantra that will result in sorting out your life right away. But once you classify your tasks or in other words prioritize them , you will for sure be more productive. Everyone has his/her own tasks and priorities, so a generalized or common list is not at all possible. Many moms have actually implemented this time management tip and have been delighted with the results!

How Time Sheet Management Can Help You

If you want to schedule and manage every task for a day, download a time sheet. A time sheet management tool will definitely help you figure out ways to improve your efficiency. Take care to consider every small aspect when scheduling for family occasions like time to travel and other similar aspects. You will have greater flexibility in your daily life when using a time sheet management tool. This way you can devote more time to yourself or your pet projects. But its not only work that needs to be taken care of. Ensure that you have ample time that you devote with your family and yourself.

Using Good Employee Time Management

Regardless of you doing business or not, you should have one person minimum to share your business operations. This will help you free some of your time. The problem is you are analyzing your profits and you realize that you can get more value for the investment that you have put into your employees. If you have faced such a situation, you should start employee time management. You can take it for granted that they know it. Goal setting strategies have to be made integral part of their work.

A training course is a good way for your employees to gain knowledge about employee time management. Schedule a session for a compulsory meeting and either you or anyone who has practical knowledge of time management can speak to them about effective use of time. Some of the employees can give you valuable inputs about the time wasters for the business. You can rectify the problem, thus freeing time where in they can be more productive.

Once the problems have been tackled, draw up a schedule. Consult with your project members regarding the time required to complete a project. This way you can schedule effectively. You will also know if you are short of any resources and can arrange to procure them. This will also depend on the number of project you have and the amount of time a project needs for completion. You have to alter the work style, since have only fixed number of hours in a single day and you cant do anything to change it.

Once employee time management is firmly established in your organization things will turn to look more positive. You will see a jump in profits. You will see the performance of your business reach new levels. Employee time management is good, but do remember to implement it step by step and allow your employees to see the advantages firsthand instead pushing it on them.

Tips for directory owners.

After browsing thorough hundreds, if not thousands of directories, and submitting my sites to many (paid directories) these are some of the things I've noticed. If you read through this post, I am sure that you will have much more success with your directory. I know that not everyone will agree with me, so I would like to stress that these are only my thoughts and suggestions, and this is how I felt while submitting to directories. If something like this has been posted recently, sorry for brining this up again, but I really need to say this because I am very dissapointed with what I saw.

BTW. English is not my native language so bear with me

Ok, first of all, get your PageRank up to 6. In all honesty, how hard is to get PR5? You can purchase one sitewide at PR7 site and get up to 5, or you can spend a couple hundred dollars submitting to high quality directories. (although, I admit, it could be a little harder after the recent PR update, when many dirs lost their PR).
The reason behind this is that permanent directory listing does not mean much, if your PR drops in the future. By having higher PR you are showing me (the submitter) that you are serious about your directory, because you have put some time and money into it. You need to have high PR and professional looking directory if you want people to submit to it.
And let’s be honest, people submit to directories for PR, not for traffic. The days when directories were providing traffic are long gone. Do not brag about your traffic. Work hard, and brag about your PR.

Additionally, people browsing directory lists usually make their way down starting from the higher PR. Stay ahead of the flock and get higher PR. This will get you many more submissions.
I usually start submitting to high PR, high quality directories. And after submitting to these, I will usually have very little money left to submit to lower PR directories. The competition is too big, and I don't have time to look at many directoires with PR4 and less.

DO NOT require registration. People submitting to directories have already went through hundreds, got frustrated by many things, and the last thing they want is to waste additional time registering.
Only have this available if you have high quality, high PR directory. For those I would definitely take additional time to register.

Do not use default skin! You wouldn’t believe how many of those I have seen! I will not submit to that directory. Heck, you did not even take five minutes to change your skin but you expect people to pay you for submission. There are many free skins out there. It can be done in 10 min, so do it!

BE REALISTIC! Do not charge $24.95 or something like that for PR5 directory. And I have seen tons of these. If you disagree, read number 1 again. You cannot expect to make all money back after ten submissions. This is not realistic.

Do this only if you plan on further improving your PR, so you don't fill your categories with cheap listings.

Stay focused:
Do not have 5 directories.
You will make much more money from one PR7 directory than from six PR4 directories.
Try to limit the number of directories that you have. It is better to have two high quality PR6 directories than four average PR5 directories.
If you can have 5 PR6 directories, then disregard this suggestion.
While staying focused, keep your front page simple. DO not add news, stock quotes, weather prognosis, or whatever else people are adding to their home pages.

Do not sell sitewide links. If you think your directory will look professional with 20-30 sitewide links at the bottom, think again. Many people will not submit to directories with many sitewide links because this is decreasing PR that is passed to their sites.

I do not submit to categories that at the bottom have links to more pages within that category. It is better to add more subcategories to your category, than to have 5 pages of listings within the same category. So have ENOUGH categories.
http://www.top100bloggers.com/directory - a perfect example of nice PR directory where admin was too lazy to add more categories

Arrange your front page so categories that people submit to the most have a link from the front page. Arrange categories by popularity, not in alphabetical order. This way you will transfer more PR to categories that get more submissions.

DO have more pricing options. I really like how 2yi directory did this.

DO not offer free submissions. Do not even start off with free submissions. Even with long waiting times many people will submit for free. Do not leave them choice. If they like your directory, make them pay, and they will!

If you still want to offer free submissions don't charge $40 for express submission. I will never pay $40 knowing that there is a free option as well. But $10 I will.

Submit your directory to all directory lists.

Do not offer only paypal as your payment processor. Try to have one more.
2co.com is a good choice for a backup processor.

DO not have a guidelines page that is too long - just like this post

Try to keep it as simple as possible. And do not reject websites for reasons that are not CLEARLY stated. I got a few rejections on the basis that my website is made for adsense – and I have only 1-2 ads per page. Heck, you can say that for almost any website today. And of course, this happened only with directories that do not offer refund for rejected submissions.

Do not have a submission page that mentions nothing about payment, that transfers to paypal after pressing the submit button.

Do not make me select category at the submission page. Get a better script!

To sum up, I still believe that directories are valuable source of back links. I know of websites that have 90% of backlinks coming from directories, and they still rank very good for competitive keywords.

Work hard on your directory and you will definitely make decent income. Heck, look me up and I will be the first to submit to your directory, if you did most of the things that I listed above.

Right now there are only 40-50 directories, out of almost 5,000 out there that I have submitted to.

I spent around $2000 submitting several sites. And I am still looking for quality directories to submit to.
If, after reading this post, you feel that you have a quality directory that I might be interested in, please let me know and I will gladly submit many sites to it, if I already haven't
